Can it be 10 years already? Indeed, our first concert was in June 2005. Time flies when you are having fun! For this concert we revisited our favourite songs from over the years.
Top of our list was Eric Whitacre’s passionate Leonardo Dreams Of His Flying Machine, an unstaged micro-opera imagining the wild and crazy dreams of Leonardo da Vinci as he invents a prototype of a flying machine.
Of course there were love songs!! We thrilled to Amor di mi Alma, a Spanish love song by Randall Stroope. As well we sang music from Thomas Tallis, Paul Mealor, and Kinley Lange’s offerings of Divine Love.
We couldn’t miss out on Ralph Vaughan Williams. Pairing his artistry with Shakespeare, we brought you Full Fathom Five, The Cloudcapped Towers and Over Hill, Over Dale.
And, as usual, we wrapped it all up with a healthy serving of Canadian content: Healy Willan’s well loved Rise Up My Love, Peter Togni’s Ave Verum, Ruth Watson Henderson’s Song My Paddle Sings, two rollicking and hilarious French Canadian folk songs arranged by Donald Patriquin and finally an arrangement of Stan Rogers’ classic Northwest Passage, the quintessential illustration of Canadiana, designed to get your feet stomping and your heart thumping!! And finished with an unexpected cuppa joe.
